ART THERAPY

Art therapy is an established form of psychotherapy which allows the user to dig deep into their inner self and communicate those suppressed thoughts and feelings through the use of art. It can help you to express and understand yourself and your experiences through both talking and creative activities and you don’t need to have any previous art experience or be good at art to benefit from it.

Their are many other benefits that come from using art therapy such as

  • Self exploration.

  • Reduction in anxiety and depression.

  • Stress relief.

  • Emotional processing.

  • Collaboration with others.

  • Self esteem building.

  • Pain management.

  • Trauma processing.

Art therapy can help children and adults, especially those who struggle to put how they feel into words. It can help anybody who is willing and open to creating from within themselves. The people who would most likely benefit from art therapy would be

  • Adults with depression and anxiety.

  • Adults with dementia.

  • Prison Inmates.

  • Veterans.

  • Children with depression and anxiety or that have experienced trauma.

  • Cancer patients.

  •  Elderly people.

  • Stressed or burned out individuals.

As you can see, art therapy is accessible to people of all ages, including those who do not consider themselves good at art. For those who find other forms of therapy difficult or ineffective, art therapy could be an excellent option to try as an adjunctive treatment.

If these things resonate with you please get in touch. I provide private art therapy group sessions in Nottingham and throughout the East Midlands, and can also do individual sessions if required too.
